Geography

Geography at Tregolls Academy forms an integral part of our curriculum. Our Geography provision inspires the children and develops curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.

As a school, we want the children to develop their understanding of environmental changes and become “global citizens” that are well-informed and responsible. Pupils will develop geographical knowledge, understanding and skills of how the Earth’s features are shaped, interconnected and change over time. The curriculum will aim to develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places – including defining physical and human characteristics and how these provide a geographical context for understanding the actions of processes. An important part of this intention is to keep our local area as an important starting point in Geography (e.g. the seaside/tin mines), integrating them in order that pupils get a sense of how the landscape has been shaped by man and nature and the effects of these. Pupils will develop understanding of the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world. They will collect, analyse and communicate information and have experiences of fieldwork to deepen their understanding. They will use atlases, maps, globes and GIS systems and communicate geographical information. Pupils will learn in a sequential way, building knowledge and skills over time, following a coherent scheme.

Children learn about the world locally, nationally and globally so that they can protect it as global citizens. Children explore the theme of sustainability and a sense of belonging as they identify similarities and differences between places around the world.

It is our aim that children know and remember more through immersive experiences, trips & visits and carefully planned sequences of lessons and geographical topics.
